In 2009 I attended GFWTE Walk to Emmaus #15 and sat at the table of Matthew. Since then I have served on 12 Walks and was the Lay Director of Walk #27. I've been married to Tamara for 24 years and we have three boys; Blake 24 a Senior Airman in the United States Air Force, Brandon 20 is an EMT student at Lanier Tech, and Donovan 15 is a Sophomore at Johnson High School. My wife and I have been involved in ministry in Tijuana, Mexico through Spectrum Ministries since 2011. We both feel called to be part of foreign missions and would not be surprised to be called into full time ministry at some point. I would like to serve on the GFWTE Board because this community has done so much for our family.
Fran attended North Georgia Walk to Emmaus #32 in the fall of 1992 where she sat at the Table of Rebekah. Athens Area Walk to Emmaus held its first walk in the spring of 1993. Because Fran lived closer to Athens, she and her husband, Larry, became active in the Athens Area Emmaus community. She has served in every team servant position. She was Lay Director for Athens Area Women’s Walk #14.
Fran helped to form the Athens Area Chrysalis Community for young people. She served as the chair of the Chrysalis board for several years. She was also the Adult Lay Director for Chrysalis flight #2. She and her husband began their Clown Communion ministry with the Chrysalis Community. They have preformed for numerous churches in the north Georgia area. They have also presented Clown Communion for several Georgia Foothills team training sessions.
Fran has been active in the Georgia Foothills Emmaus Community from its formation. She served as Lay Director for Women’s Walk #2 and on many of the teams since then.
Fran is an active member of The Highlands UMC. She serves on several of the churches committees including Staff Parish Relations, Outreach, Intercessory Prayer, Communion, Hospitality, and Finance. She has been a Lay Delegate to the North Georgia Annual Conference for over ten years: first for Redwine UMC and for the last several years for The Highlands UMC. She has also completed both courses of Elijah House at The Highlands.
Fran is a dedicated servant of God. She has the experience and love for Emmaus to be a great asset as a member of the board of The Georgia Foothills Walk to Emmaus. She would appreciate your support.
Hello. My name is Keith Owen and I attended the Georgia Foothills Walk to Emmaus number 10 where I sat at the table of Peter. Let me tell you a little about me. I grew up in Mississippi and got my Industrial Engineering degree from Mississippi State University in 1978. In 1980 I moved to Habersham County, Georgia and embarked on a 36 year career with Ethicon, Inc., a Johnson and Johnson Company, in Cornelia. I retired from Ethicon earlier this year. My wife, Pam, and I attend Clarkesville First United Methodist Church where I am active in the choir and have held several leadership positions. I am an avid cyclist (mountain biking and road cycling) and am involved in volunteer mountain biking advocacy along with serving as a volunteer trail maintainer with the National Forest. I have two adult daughters, two adult step-daughters, four grandchildren, and another grandchild on the way. I have not slowed down in retirement! Why do I want to serve on the GFWTE board? As with many of you, my Walk was a significant step in my growth as a Christian. I believe in the mission of the Emmaus movement – developing church leaders. I believe that we as Christians must grow and nurture other Christians to build them up as servants. I hope, with God’s help, that I might help in this quest to continue growing all sorts of Christian leaders and enriching their Christian lives.
My name is Lisa Bisson and I attended the Georgia Foothills Walk to Emmaus #10 where I sat at the Table of Sarah, back in 2006. Since the walk, I have spent my 4th days serving alongside my husband John and two kids Miranda and Cole. I have been on several Honduran mission trips, served in our church as the Greeter Coordinator, lead a women's Bible study, taught Sunday school, and serve with Family Promise of Hall County. I look forward to the opportunity to serve on the board as another way to show the love of Christ through the Emmaus Community. My Emmaus weekend was transforming and I truly believe in its purpose: to raise up leaders in our local churches. De colores!
Steve Taylor, Georgia Foothills Walk to Emmaus #25, where he sat at the table John! He attends St Paul UMC of Lumpkin County where he works with the Van Ministry, Youth Sunday School and is Church Council Chair. He has been in the Information Technology field for more years then he cares to admit. He loves our Lord, and enjoys motorcycles, boats, cars and music.
Walter Reid attended Georgia Foothills Walk to Emmaus #23 and sat at the table of Mark. Since his Walk, he has been very active at Loudsville UMC and has worked every Walk. Walter has worked very hard to get Pilgrims for each Walk. When asked why he might like to serve on the GFWTE Board his heartfelt response was, "I have found a home with this community, and want to see it grow. I want us to get more Pilgrims, and believe God has put some ideas on my heart to do that."
