The Walk to Emmaus is an ecumenical spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The Walk to Emmaus® is grounded theologically and institutionally in The Upper Room ministry unit of the General Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church, however, The Walk to Emmaus is ecumenical, and as such, invites and involves the participation of Christians of many denominations. To nurture this process of discipleship, the Emmaus movement offers specific opportunities including accountability groups and monthly community gatherings where Emmaus participants meet for fellowship, worship and instruction. The Georgia Foothills Walk to Emmaus (GFWTE) community, based in Northeast Georgia, is one of these local communities . The GFWTE community was founded in 2002 by our brothers and sisters in Christ in the Athens Area Walk to Emmaus and other community members.
